Roman Vasyliovych Oliinyk, call sign “Cyclops”, was born on June 12, 1999, in the city of Boyarka, Kyiv Oblast. He spent his childhood here, studied, and graduated from school.
From his youth, Roman sought his own path. There were attempts to acquire civilian professions as a cook and a manager, but he left his studies because he had a clear inner conviction: military service was his true calling.
In 2017, Roman came to Zhytomyr and entered the Zhytomyr Military Institute. However, unable to reconcile with the events in the east of the country and refusing to stand aside from the war, he made a mature decision — he signed a contract with the legendary 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade and headed to the front line.
In subsequent years, Roman repeatedly returned to the east as part of other units, including the 132nd and 72nd brigades, invariably remaining faithful to his oath and his brothers-in-arms.
It was in Zhytomyr that Roman started a family. He got married here, and the couple had a son, Kyrylo, who became his greatest source of strength and love.
At the end of 2021, after completing his contract with the 132nd Brigade, Roman decided to try civilian life to be close to his family. But on February 24, 2022, the war called him again. Without hesitation, he returned to the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders.
On August 20, 2022, Roman Oliinyk was killed in action near the village of Potomkyne, Kherson Oblast, during combat operations in the course of the de-occupation of Vysokopillia.
Roman Vasyliovych Oliinyk was buried in the Alley of Heroes in Zhytomyr. He remains in the ranks forever as a warrior, a husband, a father, and a Hero of Ukraine.
