Police Captain Shevchenko Ivan Yuriiovych, aged 32, was born in the village of Pobidna, Cherkasy region. He is a graduate of Odesa Mechnikov National University.
Inspector of platoon #2 of the Separate Assault Brigade of National Police of Ukraine “Liut”, Assault Regiment “Tsunami”, call sign “Cop”.
In June 2014, he joined the battalion of the Special Police Patrol Service “STORM”.
From 2014 to 2018, he was directly involved in the anti-terrorist operation, ensuring its conduct and protecting the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
During this period, he was awarded medals and appreciation letters, including the Presidential Award “For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation” by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. Presidential Decree dated 17 February 2016 # 53/2016.
Since July 2018, he has been an inspector of the patrol police response department #3 of the Biliayivka Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.
From 08 February 2020 to 20 May 2020, he was directly involved in the national security and defence activities, repulsion and deterrence of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
In November 2020, he was transferred to the Mankivka Police Department of the Cherkasy Region Police Department and worked as a district officer in the village of Mankivka. During this period of his life, he started a family and became a father.
In April 2023, he was transferred to the joint assault brigade of the National Police of Ukraine “Liut”, assault regiment “Tsunami”, and our family moved to Odesa to be closer to each other. On 12 July 2023, he was sent on a combat mission to the village of Klishchiyivka, Donetsk region, Bakhmut direction, as part of the assault troops.
On 21 August, 2023, while performing a combat mission in the Bakhmut direction, the village of Klishchiyivka, he died in a firefight with the enemy, firing from a machine gun and holding the flank, covering his comrades. He was injured in the lower right limb, self-medicated by applying a tourniquet, and then crawled away from the position to a shelter, but unfortunately, during the evacuation, he sustained life-threatening injuries.
At one point, life stopped and was divided into “before” and “after”. I still cannot find the words to express everything that I feel in my heart. Many plans, dreams and hopes collapsed in one moment. In the summer of 2023, Ivan applied for admission to Odesa State University of Internal Affairs, and after the funeral we received a call saying that he had been accepted…
His parents were left without a son, his wife without a husband, and his young son without a father.
At the time of the husband’s death, the son was 7 months old, now he is 1 year and 2 months old.
